    The GaU School of Education strives to prepare the coming generation of enthusiastic educators and innovators positioned to improve education in their communities. Our courses are designed to incorporate the best learning practices and prepare our students for the countless ways they can contribute meaningfully to education today and explore educational challenges beyond the 21st century.The School engages in the discovery, development, demonstration, and dissemination of professional knowledge and practice in the field of teacher education. We prepare professionals to serve as teachers, administrators, educational planners, curriculum developers, counsellors, psychologists, and policymakers.GaU SoE seeks to inculcate moral reasoning, ethics, integrity and respect for diversity by teaching critical thinking, critical analysis and problem-solving skills. We take our undergraduate students through a journey of transformation from high school graduates to individuals able to enrich the educational experiences of children. The hopes and dreams of the students are transformed into a professional disposition of improving the lives of others and dealing with critical challenges in education.Our postgraduate programmes are tailored to provide transformative adult learning experiences for educators aspiring to lead the education sector. We cultivate innovative educational leaders and researchers who are appropriately skilled to handle important problems of policy and practice in education.Student life at the education school offers the opportunity to learn new things, acquire new knowledge, develop new skills, and change attitudes in ways that profoundly equip for life after University.Our students are part of a school community which is a source of pride and optimism for the university.     • The following are the programmes and admission requirements for the School of Education’s
      Bachelor of Education Programme

      The Bachelor of Education programme is a specialized programme that offers a concurrent professional preparation and teaching subject content consisting of 171 units of course weight overall. The program prepares students to instruct in two subject areas at secondary school level. The professional education courses are offered by the department of education while teaching subject content is offered by the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, the School of Arts and Social Sciences and the School of Business and Economics. Professional preparation includes teaching practice, which is a period of at least 12 weeks of supervised teaching in the field, taken at the end of the third year of study.Upon completing the programme, students will earn a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd.) and will be eligible for teacher certification and registration by the Teachers Service Commission. Our innovative Bachelor’s programmes include:Bachelor of Education (Arts)Mode of Study: Full-time starting in September; Part-time.Duration: 4 academic years.Requirement: Minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE and above and C+ in two teaching subjects (Business, English, Geography, History, IRE/CRE, Kiswahili, Mathematics) or Diploma in education from a recognized institution.Bachelor of Education (Science)Mode of Study: Full-time starting in September; Part-time.Duration: 4 academic years.Requirement: Minimum mean grade of C+(plus) at KCSE and a C+ in two teaching subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics) or Diploma in education from recognized institution and C+ in two teaching subjects.Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood and Primary Education (ECPE)Mode of Study: Full-time starting in September; Part-time.Duration: 4 academic years.Requirement: Minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or C (plain) and P1/ S1 certificate or Diploma in ECPE from recognized institution.

      Our master’s and doctoral degree programmes seek to nurture innovative educational leaders, explore current issues in education, and share ideas and best practices with stakeholders and communities.

    • Master's Programmes

      Master's programs are full time and part-time, intensive programs that integrate educational theory, research, policy and practice. The small class sizes provide an intimate setting for academic inquiry and promote individual contact with lecturers and fellow students.Master of Education (Educational Administration)Mode of Study: Full Time starting in September; Part-time.Duration: 2 years.Requirement: An applicant for the degree of M.Ed. in Educational Administration must satisfy any one of the following four entry requirements:Bachelor of Education Degree (at least Second Class Honours Upper Division) of Garissa University or institutions recognized by Garissa University Senate.At least hold a second-class Bachelor's degree (Upper Division) in B.A or B.Sc. with a Post-graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or an equivalent certificate in Education, all recognized by Garissa University.Bachelor of Education Degree (Lower Division) with two years relevant professional experience after award of the degree or one research publication in relevant field.Post-graduate Diploma in Education and second-class Bachelor's degree (Lower Division) in B.A / B.Sc. with two years relevant professional experience after award of the PGDE or one research publication in relevant field.Bachelor of Education Degree with Pass / B.A or BSc. with Pass and PGDE, and relevant professional experience of not less than five years after award of the degree/PGDE.Master of Education (Curriculum Studies)Mode of Study: Full Time starting in September; Part-time.Duration: 2 yearsRequirement: An applicant for the degree of M.Ed. in Curriculum Studies must satisfy any one of the following four entry requirements:Bachelor of Education Degree (at least Second Class Honours Upper Division) of Garissa University or institutions recognized by Garissa University Senate.At least hold a second-class Bachelor's degree (Upper Division) in B.A or B.Sc. with a Post-graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or an equivalent certificate in Education, all recognized by Garissa University.Bachelor of Education Degree (Lower Division) with two years relevant professional experience after award of the degree or one research publication in relevant field.Post-graduate Diploma in Education and second-class Bachelor's degree (Lower Division) in B.A / B.Sc. with two years relevant professional experience after award of the PGDE or one research publication in relevant field.Bachelor of Education Degree with Pass / B.A or BSc. with Pass and PGDE, and relevant professional experience of not less than five years after award of the degree/PGDE.

    • Doctoral Programmes

      The goal of the PhD program is to prepare leading education researchers. The doctoral experience at the School of Education provides students with research apprenticeship under the guidance of an academic advisor or supervisor. Students are assisted to develop the skill set they need to undertake their own outstanding of research.
      Doctor of Philosophy (Educational Management)
      Mode of Study: Full Time starting in September; Part-time.
      Duration: 3 years.
      Requirement: Master of Education (Administration/Management/Leadership) from a recognized institution.
      Doctor of Philosophy (Curriculum Studies)
      Mode of Study: Full Time starting in September; Part-time.
      Duration: 3 years
      Requirement: Masters in Curriculum Studies from a recognized institution.
