Garissa University (GaU) was set up by a legal notice No. 116, the Garissa University order 2011. The Government of Kenya upgraded the Garissa Teachers’ Training College to Garissa University as a Constituent College of Moi University. GaU in response to the increased demand for higher education, as well as in responding to the government’s effort in availing education to its citizens, the Privately Sponsored Students Programme (PSSP) was established.
The Privately Sponsored Students Programme (PSSP) is an effort aimed at increasing access to University education for those unable to secure government sponsorship and who are willing to further their university education at all levels. PSSP supports the University mission of imparting knowledge and skills through innovative teaching, research and consultancy. It also enhances attraction and retention of staff by contributing to staff welfare; and supplements Corporate Social Responsibility of the University.
